Blue Daisy: Award-Winning Multifunctional Ring and Pendant Celebrates Nature-Inspired Elegance

Blue Daisy by Teong Yan Ni is a striking piece of hand-fabricated jewelry that seamlessly transforms from a ring to a pendant, reflecting both versatility and femininity. Inspired by the rare and mystic blue daisy flower, the design captures the image of a lady holding a blue daisy between her fingers, translating this delicate moment into a wearable work of art. The piece features blue sapphires for the petals and yellow sapphires at the center, set in contrasting white metal, with each petal crafted to be slightly unequal for a lifelike, floating effect.

The creation process for Blue Daisy involved extensive research and experimentation. Teong Yan Ni meticulously studied real flowers, photographs, and various jewelry mechanisms to ensure both beauty and practicality. Multiple sketches, clay models, and paper cutouts were developed to refine the size, shape, and arrangement. Close collaboration with manufacturers was crucial, especially in perfecting the hidden hinge and locking mechanism that allows the jewelry to convert effortlessly between ring and pendant. The result is a piece that is easy to operate-simply unlock the back of the band to detach the flower and reveal a hidden bail for pendant wear, or slide it back onto the band and secure it for use as a ring.

Weighing 4.94 grams as a ring and 5.82 grams as a pendant, with a height of 28mm and a ring size of Asian 11, Blue Daisy is designed for those who enjoy mixing and matching their accessories for different occasions. The design not only celebrates the intertwining symbolism of the daisy-representing true love and unity-but also embodies hope, joy, and confidence through its thoughtful choice of gemstones. The technical challenges of creating a seamless, unnoticeable hinge and lock were overcome through persistent testing and communication, resulting in a jewelry piece that is as practical as it is beautiful. This innovative approach has earned Blue Daisy the Bronze A' Design Award, recognizing its contribution to advancing the art and science of jewelry design.
