ChungSheng Chen's innovative Chopstikbench, made from 37,800 pairs of recycled disposable chopsticks, debuts at prestigious design exhibitions
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ChungSheng Chen's Chopstikbench is a remarkable creation, repurposing 37,800 pairs of disposable chopsticks, equivalent to the usage in three night markets per day in Taiwan, into a stunning piece of sustainable furniture. The bench, exhibited at various prestigious events, conveys a powerful message about the environmental impact of disposable chopsticks while offering a visually elegant and organic design suitable for street and reception furniture.
The intricate process of creating Chopstikbench involved intertwining and gluing each chopstick with non-toxic adhesive, followed by CNC cutting to shape the bench. The resulting smooth arc design, hollowed out progressively from the inside out, not only showcases the strength and stability of the bench but also serves as a visual reminder of the need for environmental consciousness.
Chen's innovative approach to tackling the environmental issues caused by disposable chopsticks has garnered widespread attention, with the bench winning the Bronze A' Design Award in 2023. The award recognizes the design's ingenious use of recycled materials and its contribution to improving the quality of life through sustainable design practices.
