Blooming Blossom: Transformable Multiwear Jewelry Piece

Xincheng Zhang's Blooming Blossom is a contemporary piece of jewelry developed from traditional jade carving and metalworking, featuring certified natural nephrite jade hand-carved and set in 18K gold with diamonds inlaid. The flower bangle disassembles into 5 different petal pendants, a cocktail ring, and a simple bangle for multiwear needs. The combination of jade and gold in ornaments dates back 2,500 years in ancient China, and this piece is a modern interpretation of that tradition.

The project faced challenges in combining the characteristics of 5 different flowers into a brand new flower that doesn't exist in reality. The mechanisms for multiwear jewelry had to be simple and hidden, and ensuring the consistency of the whiteness and luster of all petals of the rare nephrite jade was a significant challenge.

Mr. Zhang's background in visual arts and his unique approach to exploring the contemporary applications of traditional culture and art have led to the creation of this meaningful and innovative piece. His deep understanding and respect for traditional culture, particularly the significance of nephrite in Chinese culture, have been instrumental in the development of this award-winning design.
