The Withering Flower Collection: A Fusion of Oriental Symbolism and Innovative Textile Printing

Tsai Jung Chiang's The Withering Flower collection draws inspiration from the powerful symbolism of flowers in Oriental culture, particularly as depicted in classical Chinese literature. The collection features a series of silk screen printed fabrics and dresses, each meticulously crafted to embody specific meanings derived from Chinese literary symbolism. The innovative textile printing technique creates an illusion of prints floating in the air, evoking the imagery of tattoos on the skin when worn against the body.

The collection's hand-printed textiles are stretchy, waterproof, and opaque on sheer net fabrics, distinguishing them from traditional digital sublimation printing techniques. This unique approach ensures the vibrancy and opaqueness of the prints, offering a fresh perspective on the interaction between textile and design.

Beginning in January 2016 in London, UK, The Withering Flower collection was completed in April 2016 and showcased at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design as part of Tsai Jung Chiang's BA Degree in Fashion Design.

The Withering Flower collection is a testament to Tsai Jung Chiang's dedication to exploring Oriental literature and Chinese cultural heritage through her visual art and fashion design. Her work has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in Textile, Fabric, Textures, Patterns, and Cloth Design in 2020, underscoring the collection's outstanding expertise and innovation.
