London, April 2018 - June 2020 - Dian Chen's Cyborg Rainbow challenges traditional gender norms through participatory jewellery
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dian Chen's Cyborg Rainbow is a groundbreaking jewellery collection that redefines gender and identity through participatory design. Informed by post-humanist philosophy and cyber-punk culture, the project aims to construct a context in which wearers can experience a fluid relationship between body, objects, and identity. The collection features interchangeable parts made from industrial materials, allowing wearers to replace and remake the jewellery, creating an infinite array of possibilities.
The participatory nature of the project encourages wearers to engage with the pieces, fostering a materialized exploration of cyborg theory. The collection, realized using materials such as electroplated copper, aluminum alloy, acrylic, stainless steel, rubber, and latex, offers a surreal and futuristic experience, challenging traditional perceptions of gender and identity.
Dian Chen's Cyborg Rainbow project was exhibited at Central Saint Martins in June 2019 and AN+ ART and Design Museum from March to June 2020, garnering attention for its innovative approach to jewellery design and its thought-provoking exploration of post-humanism, feminism, LGBTQ movements, and gender equality.
