Herism Jewelry Collection: Bridging Generations of Female Empowerment

Fan Gao's Herism jewelry collection is a tribute to the independent attitude and confident female image of the 1960s-1970s Chinese "Iron Girls," infusing their energy into the new generation of contemporary urban Chinese career women. The collection utilizes technological advances in the manufacturing of Chinese synthetic gemstones and innovative setting techniques to emphasize the potential of "green purchase" and sustainability within the Chinese jewelry market.

The production process involves 3D digital modeling, 3D wax printing, casting, model modification, stone setting, and finishing. The materials used include silver with gold plating and lab-grown gemstones, showcasing a commitment to sustainable and ethical practices.

The collection features rings, bracelets, earrings, and a brooch, each with unique specifications and design elements that reflect the historical significance and modern interpretation of female empowerment. The design combines the past and present, evoking the powerful and tough attitude of the "Iron Girls" while reflecting the multi-faceted roles of contemporary women.

Despite creative, technical, and research challenges, Fan Gao successfully realized the intricate design details, including stone setting without prongs and soldering thin chains into the hollow structure, reflecting the insight of power and resilience.

Fan Gao's Herism jewelry collection was exhibited at Central Saint Martins Degree Show in June 2019, where it received the Merit award. It was later showcased at the An+ Art & Design Museum Shenzhen, "Living Fantasy Young Designer Exhibition," by China Design Centre, highlighting its recognition and impact within the design community.

As a jewelry designer based in China, Fan Gao's work aims to present new symbols of female independence and self-determination, emphasizing the potential for sustainability in the jewelry market. Her dedication and innovative approach have earned her the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2021, recognizing her practical, innovative, and industry-leading creations that contribute to a better world.
