Sonja Iglic's Blooming Eyewear: A Fusion of Nature and Functionality

Sonja Iglic's Blooming collection is a testament to the fusion of nature and functionality, with its innovative folding eyewear concept. The design draws inspiration from the symbolism of blooming flowers, embodying change and development, while offering a versatile and adaptable accessory for the wearer's evolving needs throughout the day.

The key strength of this conceptual piece lies in its effortless adaptability, allowing the wearer to effortlessly change its appearance at any point, thanks to the unique folding system. The eyewear's ability to transform into multiple looks, combined with its compact form when folded, sets it apart as a truly distinctive accessory.

Handcrafted from 18k gold plated brass and featuring laser-cut plexiglass with intricate flower prints, the Blooming eyewear boasts a meticulous realization technology that ensures both elegance and durability. The fully opened eyewear dimensions measure 150 mm x 120 mm x 160 mm, while the fully closed dimensions are 100 mm x 85 mm x 40 mm, highlighting its compact nature.

With each petal connected to the metal frame using rivets, the design allows for seamless reconfiguration, offering a myriad of looks by simply adjusting the position of the petals. The closing system, similar to the petal arrangement, further enhances the versatility of the eyewear, making it a truly interactive and dynamic accessory.

The Blooming collection, which took approximately three months to develop, was unveiled at the International Jewellery Show Bijorhca Paris in September 2016, showcasing its innovative approach to eyewear design. Sonja Iglic's meticulous research into the historical development of spectacle frames and her dedication to overcoming ergonomic challenges have resulted in a truly remarkable and award-winning design.

Sonja Iglic's background in Production design for Theater and Film has significantly influenced her narrative approach to jewelry design, with the Blooming collection serving as a testament to her vision of redefining the conventional notions of jewelry. Hailing from Belgrade, Serbia, Sonja Iglic's innovative approach to eyewear design has been recognized with the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in 2018, solidifying her impact on the world of art, science, and technology.
