FEIYANG ZHANG's "Night Tales" Collection

FEIYANG ZHANG's "Night Tales" collection is a unique fusion of costume and fashion, inspired by the mysterious and enchanting world of dark fairytales. The collection features garments designed to fit the characteristics of weird and enchanting characters created by Feiyang herself, derived from her own dark narratives. Each piece is a result of an organic design approach, where lines, forms, and textures are drawn from nature, such as butterfly wings and tree barks, and then arranged to naturally fit the human body.

Feiyang's design process includes the creation of her own fabrics, incorporating multiple techniques like hand and machine embroidery, knitting, and screen printing. The collection, which contains 5 looks for both women and men, is a testament to Feiyang's artistic vision and dedication to storytelling through fashion.

The "Night Tales" collection was first featured in the Chicago Soho House in May 2017 and later showcased at the World AIDS Day Fashion Show STRUT in December 2017. The project began in March 2017, with the initial looks completed in December 2019 in Chicago, and additional characters being created in London in 2021.

Feiyang's design approach is deeply rooted in her love for dark narratives, drawing inspiration from novels, tales, and short stories that showcase the psychological struggles of different characters. Her unique collection reflects her passion for creating enchanting characters and garments that bring her dark narratives to life.

Feiyang's dedication to her craft is evident in the meticulous details of the collection, from carefully embellished beading and embroideries on light materials to the handwashing of silk organza to create a softer texture that allows for graceful movement. The collection is a testament to Feiyang's commitment to creating a storytelling experience through her designs.
