Para Waraji: A Fusion of Tradition and Innovation

MAKI IZAWA introduces Para Waraji, a revolutionary concept in footwear design. Para Waraji is a Waraji sandal woven with a very strong and durable parachute cord, offering protection and versatility for everyday and emergency use.

Para Waraji is a fusion of traditional Japanese craftsmanship and modern technology, reimagining the traditional Waraji sandals made of straw with the use of 4mm paracord, originally developed for military parachutes. The sandals are designed to fit securely around the foot, providing comfort and protection while also serving as a versatile tool in emergencies.

Designed to optimize both aesthetics and functionality, Para Waraji enhances people's lives by considering the interaction between space, objects, and individuals. Graduating from the Osaka University of Arts, MAKI IZAWA is dedicated to creating designs that establish a deep emotional connection with people's hearts, with a focus on interiors, products, and packages.

Para Waraji was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Footwear, Shoes, and Boots Design category in 2023, recognizing its outstanding and creatively ingenious design that contributes to quality of life improvements.
