Lingjun Sun's 'Fissure' collection, inspired by environmental crises, features hand-carved, three-dimensional lattice jewellery with a unique design logic.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Lingjun Sun's 'Fissure' collection is a unique range of art jewellery inspired by the environmental crisis. Each piece is hand-carved into a three-dimensional lattice, echoing the crevices in melting ice caps and dried earth. The collection's design logic hides between the organic lines of each piece, contributing to balanced compositions of seemingly random components.
The jewellery was meticulously hand-carved from wax to create the structure, with each piece featuring a crisscrossing structure highlighted by color contrast. The collection includes rings and earrings made from 18K yellow gold, south sea baroque pearls, and white diamonds, with stone setting, metal finishing, and black rhodium plating applied.
The 'Fissure' collection was exhibited at NYC Jewellery Week 2020, receiving the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2021. Sun's work as a designer and goldsmith is a reflection of his fascination with structure, inspired by architecture and details found in nature.
Extracting a two-dimensional pattern widely found in nature into a three-dimensional form required extensive visual analysis and model construction. The seemingly random lines of the collection presented creative and technical challenges, making 2D rendering or computer tools nearly impossible. Each piece required significant time and carving craftsmanship to model and test in physical prototypes.
Lingjun Sun, based in Australia, is a designer and goldsmith fascinated by structure, both natural and manmade. His jewellery reflects his vision of spatial beauty, often inspired by architecture and details found in nature.
