Award-Winning "The Form of Power" Costume Design Showcases Feminist Trends, Innovative Tailoring, and Sustainable Materials

Xinyi Chen's latest creation, "The Form of Power," has been recognized with the prestigious Iron A' Fashion, Apparel and Garment Design Award for 2025, celebrating its innovative approach to modern femininity. Developed in Los Angeles over three months, the project draws inspiration from the diversity and complexity of contemporary women, blending architectural influences, minimalist aesthetics, and structural tailoring to create a collection that is both visually striking and deeply symbolic.

The design features a harmonious interplay of sharp lines and soft materials, with classic black as the primary color to convey a sense of upscale strength and grace. Chen's use of contrasting fabrics-leather, suiting fabric, velvet, and tulle-reflects the multifaceted nature of femininity, while the broad shoulder silhouette and cinched waistline pay homage to the authority and leadership of modern women. Asymmetric cuts and multidimensional mirroring further break away from conventional stereotypes, offering a bold statement on female empowerment and self-expression.

Sustainability is a core element of the collection, with recycled leather and eco-friendly velvet incorporated throughout, and plans for biodegradable tulle in future iterations. The design process overcame significant technical challenges, such as integrating materials with differing stiffness, by employing elastic linings and lightweight suiting fabrics to ensure both comfort and elegance. "The Form of Power" is aimed at independent, confident women-especially workplace elites and avant-garde culture enthusiasts-encouraging them to define their own beauty and value in a rapidly evolving society.
