London-based designer Nanxi Yang has been honored with the Bronze A' Design Award 2025 for "Packaging Bejeweled," a statement jewelry collection that reimagines disposable packaging as a sustainable, integral part of contemporary adornment, challenging traditional notions of value and beauty in jewelry design.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Nanxi Yang's "Packaging Bejeweled" collection, recently awarded Bronze at the 2025 A' Jewelry Design Award, challenges conventions by turning everyday disposable packaging into wearable art. Inspired by the protective qualities of plastic egg cartons, Yang draws a parallel between the fragility of eggs and the preciousness of jewelry, merging these worlds to provoke thought on sustainability and value. The collection was developed in London between April and June 2023 and debuted at the Lethaby Gallery's Design Transform exhibition in October 2023.
Each piece in the collection-ranging from necklaces and brooches to earrings and rings-features transparent resin shells crafted using advanced 3D printing technology. These shells encase pearls, silver, and gold, allowing wearers to display and protect cherished items, such as heirloom jewelry, within the jewelry itself. By integrating recyclable materials and innovative production techniques, Yang's work not only elevates the aesthetic appeal of humble packaging but also encourages a dialogue about environmental responsibility in the luxury sector.
The design process involved extensive research into sustainable materials and recycling practices in London, with a focus on maximizing material efficiency and minimizing waste. Yang's approach redefines jewelry packaging, making it a permanent, functional, and decorative element rather than a disposable accessory. The result is a collection that appeals to contemporary values, offering customizable, multifunctional pieces that break away from traditional jewelry norms and invite wearers to reconsider the relationship between material, memory, and meaning.
